Junior Infants
We had a fantastic time celebrating Maths Week in Junior Infants. We enjoyed exploring maths through lots of fun, hands on activities.
We made 2D shape pictures, measured pumpkins and compared their sizes, created block graphs using Smarties, completed a maths trail with our lovely 6th class buddies and solved a maths problem inspired by the story Room on the Broom.
We had great fun learning, exploring, counting, measuring and problem solving together. We are little mathematicians in Junior Infants!
We had a lovely visit from Megan from RINKA Kids Fitness on Friday. See below for further information.
RINKA Kids Fitness is launching in Raheen and would love to offer your child a FREE trial class on Saturday 24th October at Raheen Community Centre.
RINKA is a structured children’s fitness programme designed to help children become stronger, more confident and more capable — physically, mentally and emotionally.
Each class combines age-appropriate strength training, fitness activities and movement challenges to help children develop:
Strength, balance and coordination
Fitness, stamina and healthy habits
Confidence, resilience and self-belief
Our classes are non-competitive and suitable for all ability levels. Children are supported and encouraged to progress at their own pace while developing a positive relationship with exercise from an early age.

Inspired by our Room on the Broom story we set up a Potions Lab in our classroom this week. We;re having lots of fun dressing up and casting spells. Some of our witches have even been bringing their cats to the vets for check ups!
Spooky Season is upon us and Junior Infants have really been getting into the Halloween spirit in our fine motor and art lessons. First we practised our cutting and tearing skills by making ghosts using cotton balls. Next we followed a lovely guided drawing activity to create monsters. We drew our monsters on whiteboards then photocopied our pictures on to black paper. Finally we chose what colour oil pastels to use to finish off our mighty monsters. We had lots of fun creating them.
We have been learning all about Autumn this week. We went on a Signs of Autumn nature walk around the school and the church. We had lots of fun and found nearly everything on our list.
Our story this week was Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed predicting what would happen and learning about some prehistoric animals. We also learned more about cave drawings and even did some of our own.
We've also been learning about syllables in literacy. We can count the number of syllables in a word.
Our role play area has now become a vet's surgery. We're taking great care of the animals.
We had our second music lesson with James from Music Generation. We love music in Junior Infants!
Huge thanks to our lovely buddies in 6th class for making friendship bracelets with us to celebrate Friendship Week. We had lots of fun and we're already looking forward to joining our buddies for more fun activities throughout the year.
In our own classroom we read lots of stories about friendship and we talked about all the ways we can be good friends to others. We also got to know each other better by drawing some of our favourite things and sharing our pictures with the class. We played games and worked and played with new people throughout the week to get to know our classmates better.
We've had a busy but fun start to the new school year. Our wonderful new Junior Infants have been settling in, making new friends and enjoying lots of exciting activities along the way.
We're delighted to welcome all our new children and families to our school community. We're all looking forward to a fantastic year together.
