Gardening
5th Class did great work in our school garden preparing it for planting. They weeded all the raised beds. They worked hard together and were very pleased with the great job that they did.
Lego League
5th Class pupils took part in the LEGO League STEAM initiative once again this year. The theme of this year’s League was ‘Unearthed’. Throughout the project, we learned about archaeology, artefacts, ancient ruins, and explored many historic Irish sites. We also enjoyed a local field trip to the site of an old school, where we discovered many interesting artefacts.
During the LEGO League project, pupils worked collaboratively in groups to research, code, and problem-solve. They were also challenged to design and build their own robots to support archaeologists in their work.
Six pupils attended the LEGO League showcase in ATU Galway, where a fantastic day was enjoyed by all. The pupils had the opportunity to present their impressive models, demonstrate their coding in action, and showcase the posters they created to accompany each project. These posters documented the design process, coding journey, and the core values practised throughout the project. After the showcase, the pupils enjoyed an exciting tour of the ATU labs, where they saw a 3D printer and a robotic arm in action.
To conclude the project, the pupils proudly showcased their models and posters to the whole school during our school showcase event.

Archaeology Field Trip
Archaeology is the theme of this year’s LEGO League project, and one of the highlights of our work so far was a wonderful educational field trip to a local field that was once the site of a school dating back to the 1800s. We were guided by Andrew, Patrick’s dad, who shared his extensive knowledge of the area’s history and helped bring the past to life for us. We learned so much about our local heritage and enjoyed exploring the site in search of artefacts. Our search proved very successful, and among the items we discovered were pieces of slate, old bricks, fragments of glass, pieces of delph, and an old pipe. It was fascinating to uncover these objects and imagine what life was like for those who attended the school many years ago. Afterwards, we returned to the classroom to examine and discuss our findings, sharing what we had learned from the experience. It was a truly memorable and enriching day. A huge thank you to Andrew for generously giving his time, sharing his expertise, and helping to make this such a valuable learning experience for everyone involved.
