Where does the talent end in Senior Infants? Baking one day, winning medals the next!
Here are a few boys and girls who proudly wore their Oranmore Blitz medals to school, this week.Β
Congratulations to our wonderful super strikers!
From Field To Table
Following on from our farming lessons, we decided to make some brown bread using ingredients from farms around Ireland...and the result was very delicious indeed. No hard working farmer would turn his nose up at a slice of delicious brown bread and a mug of tae after a day out on the farm...and neither would we after a day working hard in school!Β

Β A Trip To Our Beautiful School Garden To Meet Our New Feathered Friends
All Things Materials
During Science lessons we have been learning about materials.Β
What are materials? What ones are in our class? Which ones are waterproof?
We then had to help poor Winnie The Pooh by testing different materials to see which one would make the best umbrella. We carried out fair tests, made predictions before we began our tests and finally we stuck the best/most waterproof material to our own mini umbrellas.Β
What one do you think worked best to stop the rain?Β
Time For Teddy Bear Rolls!
Gymnastics is our focus at the moment and we are just LOVING being able to tumble & roll on our mats, outside in the sun. We know how to safely perform:
-pencil rolls
-dish rolls
-egg rolls
-teddy bear rolls
Next up are the James Bond roll and the Wonder Woman roll.Β
Keep your eyes peeled!Β

A Virtual Farm Trip To The Friendly Farmer
We had a fantastic morning today because we got to go on a special V.I.P. tour of The Friendly Farmer's farm! Accompanied by his experienced and knowledgeable Senior Infant sidekick, they showed us around their beautiful farm. First of all we visited a humongous field about to get seeded for grass. The farmers showed us the seed and explained how they travel from the hopper, to the soil. Lots of boys and girls in the infant classes spotted the New Holland tractor and were very impressed with how Ronan's friend Padraig reversed it! Next, we saw some super cute calves resting after a feed in their field and Ronan answered lots of questions from our budding farmers.Β Ronan showed us around his cool barn that the turkeys live in. Our last stop was to see the jersey cows...and what magnificent cows they are! A couple went over to the gate to say hi, while Ronan introduced us to some of the other characters! He even managed a selfie with his favourite one! We learned so, so much about farming today...and we had a great giggle doing so! We want to say a HUGE THANK YOU for a fantastic tour.Β
The seed has been planted for potential farmers in the Junior end.Β Β Β
Farming
Our new Aistear topic for April is farming!
With plenty of young farmers in our class, we definitely aren't short of facts and farm stories.Β
We are learning about:
- food and where it comes from
-types of farms
-farm safety
-animals and their young
We are also enjoying reading lots of farm related books and are keeping busy in our Aistear areas; building sheds, buying and selling in our farm shop and minding our animals. Old Mc Donald wasn't as busy as we are!
Hoppy Easter!

TrΓona's Under The Sea Mural
Our wonderfully talented TrΓona has been busily beavering away these past couple of weeks; designing and painting the most magical murals for Junior & Senior Infants. She even roped in some of our younger artists to help out! Our new murals bring a touch of magic to both classrooms and we are so grateful to TrΓona and all of our other lovely SNAs for their time and talents. They will bring joy to our school community for many years to come.Β

Starting The New Year With A Trip To Antarctica!
It's January. It's cold. It's woolly hat weather!
That reminds us of Antarctica!Β
Since coming back from our Christmas holidays, we have been learning all about this amazing continent. It's a very cold, icy place; full of different penguins! You could also spot orcas, seals, the albatross bird, a giant Antarctic Octopus or maybe even a Colossal Squid if you are there long enough. This week we looked at the Emperor Penguin. This involved watching some really cute penguin videos online. This was purely for research purposes of course! We created our own penguins in art, wrote about them during Aistear...and we also made a list of things we would bring with us to Antactica. Grab your binoculars, and have a look for youself....
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
This week was so much fun! We rehearsed in the church for our carol service, we played Christmas bingo in Gaeilge, we created chalk pastel snowmen and showed them off in assembly, we read lots of books, wrote some ou words & sentences about the nativity....AND SANTA CAME FOR A VISIT! Have a look at our photos to see for yourself.Β
Christmas Is Coming!
On Toy Show day, we had so much fun decorating our classroom and our tree! Everybody chose their favourite bauble and off we went. A special elf even made a guest appearance in our room!
Besides this, we have been busy learning how to write nice sentences; complete with full stops, finger spaces and capital letters.Β
We have really enjoyed hurling training every Wednesday and would like to thank all of our lovely trainers for helping us learn lots of new skills.Β
We are now adding numbers in maths and really love station teaching days, when we get to play lots of different maths games.
World Cup fever is well and truly alive in Senior Infants. Every day, we look forward to updates on how our teams are doing. These updates are given by some very well informed and articulate pundits.Β
Watch out, Roy Keane!
Here are just a few photos from November. Ms Giblin's Ipad was out of action for a while...but we are back!

We read lots of stories about being a good friend...we loved Meesha Makes Friend's and Carla's Sandwich in particular!
It was so much fun working with our friends to complete kindness challenges.
For P.E. we played lots of co-operative games where we had to work together and we also built our own houses using spaghetti and marshmallows in STEM!
During Aistear, we made our very own Friend Monsters. Each has a special super Friendship power.
We sang songs, played nicely and talked about all of our lovely friends, and why they are so special.
We finished the week with our very own Fruity Fondue Friendship Friday which was a big chocolate hit!
