Music

Music also plays an important role in our school.  We have a wonderful school choir.  This year we will be singing in the Peace Proms national concert in Limerick.   Every child in our school has the opportunity to learn an instrument through the Music Generation programme.  See below for future details.

Music Generation

We are delighted to be taking part in the Music Generation programme once again this year in association with Galway ETB and kindly supported by our Parents’ Association.

Each Friday our pupils will take part in a music lesson facilitated by a trained music teacher.  Our infants are learning to play the tongue drum this year and our 1st-6th class pupils are all learning to play the ukulele. Look at the video to see our pupils performing the instruments.

Glee Club

Ms O’ Neill has set up an after school contemporary choir (Glee Club). The children are getting the opportunity to sing pop, rock, and everything in between as part of a musical ensemble. Ms O Neill is a qualified music teacher and vocal coach is also training the children to use a variety of vocal techniques to strengthen their voices. Due to Ms O Neill’s teaching patterns this after school activity takes place on a Wednesday every fortnight. Glee club has been very successful to date with 30 pupils from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are taking part

Peace Proms

This year our 4th,5th and 6th class pupils are taking part in Peace Proms.  Peace proms is an initiative which allows primary school children to sing in a choir of up to 3000 children. They have the opportunity to sing with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. The children took part in a workshop with renowned conductor Greg Beardsell on 15th November. The children will be performing in the Peace Proms concert on January 21st 2023 in UL, Limerick where they sing with a full orchestra which their parents and family members can attend.  Thank you to Mr. Treacy for leading this initiative and leading the choir.
