St. Oliver Plunkett NS is situated approximately 4 miles east of Athenry. It is located in the historic town land of Temple Moyle. The official title of the school is St. Oliver Plunkett N.S. but it is usually referred to locally as Newcastle N.S. The school population has grown significantly in recent years. There are 198 children on roll at present. There are eight mainstream classroom teachers with an Administrative Principal, 3 Special Education Teachers and five SNAs in the school.

We are a progressive and innovative school and aim to create a happy and secure atmosphere where your child will always be encouraged to do their personal best. We aim to provide a high quality educational experience for each individual child in our school community. We have a strong focus on improving literacy, numeracy and ICT skills of our pupils through exciting learning experiences.

Our school also has a great sporting tradition, with children of all ages participating in GAA, athletics, swimming and other sports on a regular basis.

Music also plays an important role in our school. We have a wonderful school choir. This year we will be singing in the Peace Proms national concert in Limerick. Every child in our school also has the opportunity to learn an instrument. Currently our infants are learning the tongue drum while pupils from 1^st-6^th are learning the ukulele.

We have received numerous awards include Active Flag, 8 green schools flags, Digital Schools of Distinction, Discover Primary Science and Maths, quizzes and an Eco-UNESCO award for our school garden.

We are also extremely well equipped with the latest interactive whiteboards/Smart panels in every classrooms. We have 2 sets of ipads which are utilised to enhance pupil learning in our school.
