Third Class

School Tour

3rd class had a fantastic time on their school tour to Let's Go at NUIG. They were kept extremely busy throughout the day with loads of fun activities.

School Garden

3rd class planted onions and Marigold flowers in our planter box in our school garden. We are looking forward to taking care of them and keeping an eye on them as they grow.

Willow Room Painting

Some of our 3rd class pupils were lucky enough to have the opportunity to help out with the painting in our Willow Room. It looks fantastic.

Hurling Blitz

Our 3rd and 4th class hurling team travelled to Caurnaun on Tuesday 25th April to take part in the Parish School hurling blitz. We had a really enjoyable day out and the boys put in some fantastic displays. In our first game we were beaten with the last puck of the ball by Esker NS on a scoreline of 2-2 to 1-2. However, this did not tell the story of the game as we dominated for the vast majority of it but failed to make it count on the scoreboard. In our 2nd game of the day we faced Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada and prevailed on a scoreline of 4-2 to 1-2. The boys worked tremendously hard in this game and got their rewards with some really well worked scores.

This result meant we reached the final where we faced a very strong Lisheenkyle team. Lisheenkyle made a fast start and were 1-2 to no score up after some well taken scores. Our boys scored the next point and ensured that at half time we were still very much in the game with only 4pts between the sides. They continued to work very hard in the second half and scored 2goals to bring the game down to the wire. Unfortunately we just lost out by 4points in the end but the boys could be very proud of their never say die attitude.

A huge thank you to Leonard and all others involved in organising a very enjoyable day.

Author Visit

We welcomed author Alan Nolan to our school on Tuesday 25th April to give a talk and illustration demonstration to all our students. He read some extracts from his book The Sackville Street Caper. It was really enjoyable. Thanks to Miss Houlihan for organising this workshop, we really enjoyed it.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí tráth na gceist ag Rang a 3 & 4 ar an Mháirt le haghaidh Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhí am iontach ag gach páiste agus bhain siad an taitneamh as an lá. (3rd and 4th class had a table quiz on Tuesday for Seachtain na Gaeilge. Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed it.

Soup

We harvested our leeks from our vegetable garden that we sowed last year with Mrs. Keane.  We made delicious Leek and Potato soup from the leeks with Mrs. O Connor.

Halloween

Futsal

Futsal in the yard is a programmme introduced to improve agility, balance and coordination for primary school pupils using fun games and activities.

Over the course of the five week programme, 3rd class have got to practice and improve on the skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, tackling and most importantly teamwork!

The adapted lessons have allowed all children in the class to participate in a safe and enjoyable manner. The lessons have involved smaller sized 1 v1 player games that have been gradually developed each week to make 5 v 5 team games of Futsal.

We definitely have some more Futsal lovers now that we are coming to the end of the programme!

A big thank you to the FAI coach who came in and gave us an introductory lesson about Futsal.
