We were delighted to start a Chess Club in this school year. From 3rd class up the pupils have had the opportunity to work with an experienced chess teacher who is teaching them the fundamental movements of the game of Chess. We have had such great interest in the Chess club that we are currently running two groups on Monday afternoons- The Chess Buds (for 3rd and 4th) and The Chess Masters (for 5th and 6th Class pupils). It has been extremely well received to date and the children are really enjoying learning the rules of the game.

Chess has many benefits from being socially interactive and fun, it also helps develop logic, problem solving skills, lateral thinking and improves concentration. The pupils will get the chance to represent the school and play in a Ficheall Chess Tournament in Tuam in February.
