Second Class

Dance with Charlotte

We have had four brilliant dance sessions with Charlotte. It was amazing how quickly we were able to learn the dances because some of the had lots of different moves. At the end of each session we split into two groups and one group danced for the other. We also got to play some fun games.

Camogie Blitz

The girls had a great time at the Parish Blitz in Carnaun on Friday. They showed their skills in matches against Coldwood N.S., Carnaun N.S., Lisheenkyle N.S. and against their own friends in Newcastle.

Everyone really enjoyed the day and was delighted with their medal and treats. They ended the day watching the 5th/6th class girls win the tournament and celebrated with a singsong on the bus and of course, with the highly anticipated celebratory arch back at school.

Huge thank you to Dermot, Elaine and all at Athenry Camogie Club for a super day. Everyone is already looking forward to next year. Thanks also to all the parents and grandparents who came to support the girls.

Well done to all the girls- the future of camogie in Newcastle looks bright!

World Book Day

World Book Day is one of the most fun days of the year. We get to dress up as a character from one of our favourite books. This year we had lots of great costumes. Everyone got a chance to show off their costume and their book. At home time we all got a certificate congratulating us on our super costumes.

Planting Strawberries & Potatoes

Now that Spring is here and the weather is getting a bit milder it's time to do some planting. This year we started with potatoes and strawberries. The boys planted potatoes and the girls planted strawberries. We are keeping them inside until the weather is a bit warmer. Check back to see how they're getting on.

Pancake Tuesday

There was great excitement in 2nd Class on Pancake Tuesday. Everyone brought in lots of toppings and for anyone who forgot or who was feeling a little extra hungry there were some tasty extra toppings.

No wonder there were so many happy faces!

St Bridget's Cloak

On St. Bridget's Day we heard a special story about St. Bridget and how she got land to build her first church. We decided that it would be a nice picture to have in our classroom so we all worked together to colour it in and to decorate Bridget's cloak.

St Bridget's Crosses

On St. Bridget's Day we also made St Bridget's crosses. We used card instead of rushes but they were still tricky to make.

Hurling

It was exciting to welcome our Hurling Coach, Cian back again this year.

We started off with a game of Bulldog to warm up.

Then we practised some new skills.

At the end of the session we had a very competitive match!

Cian will be our coach for the next six weeks.

Hopefully the fine weather will last that long as well.

Harvesting in the Garden

We planted lots of different vegetables back when we were in First Class and now the time has come to harvest them. We picked a nice sunny afternoon and it was amazing to see how much everything had grown since we planted them back in the spring.
