Lego League 2025
5th Class pupils took part in the LEGO League this year. The theme of this year's League was ' Submerged'. We learned about marine life, habitats and occupations and developed out coding skills as well as our teamwork skills. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the class.
Five pupils attended the LEGO League showcase in ATU, Galway. 5th Class spent many weeks working on this year's Submerged theme. One pupil represented each of the five groups at the showcase. A fantastic day was had by all. Our pupils had the opportunity to showcase their impressive models and demonstrate their coding in action. They also presented their posters to accompany each project which documented the design process, the coding and the core values that were practiced during the project. After the showcase they enjoyed an interesting tour of the labs in ATU where they saw a 3D printer and a robotic arm!
We also showcased our models and posters to the whole school during our school showcase event.
Pupils in 5th class took part in the Lego League Showcase again this year as organised by Galway Education Centre. The theme for this year was Masterpiece. Students were encouraged to think about their own interests and hobbies and to incorporate them into their projects.
Through utilising the elements of STEAM (Science, Teachnology, Engineering, Art and Maths) the students created projects using their voices, coding and Lego.
Each child received a cert of participation, a medal and presented their projects to the rest of the school. Six students were chosen to then represent the school at a showcase in the Clayton Hotel in Galway.
Pupils in 5th class took part in the First Lego League Showcase in Galway Education centre. The theme for this year was SUPERPOWERED. We learned all about the jounrey from energy, how it is produced and innovate ways to make greener energy for the future.
Through utilising the elements of STEAM (Science, Teachnology, Engineering, Art and Maths) the students created prototypes which showed ways to produce energy through solar power, wind power, hydroelectricty etc.
Each child received a cert of participation and presented their projects to the rest of the school as part of a school assembly. Six students were chosen to then represent the school at a showcase in Galway Education Centre. We are very proud of all they have achieved.
Lego League 2022
Our 4th/5th class took part in the First Lego League in association with Galway Education Centre. The theme this year is
Cargo Connect. This is a STEM initiative (Science, technology, engineering and maths for primary schools. Through STEM learning and
exploration through the medium of Lego the pupils explored the future of transportation. From the shipment of packages in rural and urban
areas, to disaster relief delivery and high-tech air transit. The pupils worked in teams to develop some key skills of design and technology- planning, designing and evaluating. They designed different modes of cargo transportation, ensuring to take safety features into consideration in their design. The pupils also learnt to code using Lego Education WeDo 2.0. Using their knowledge of what they had learnt they were made to motorise their vehicles, add motorized parts, and safety features (such as flashing lights and sirens when vehicles are being loaded/unloaded etc). A special thank you to Mr. Treacy who coordinated and led the project with our pupils. Click on the following link to see a quick overview of their journey
